What is Virtual Power Plant?

In simple terms, the power generation plant will have a cloud-based data control center that aggregate production data from various distributed energy resources (DERs). The data center may use various communication technologies and internet of things (IoT) sensors to gather data, which allows an operator to monitor and control the production of each plant. By integrating several types of power sources such as solar, wind, small hydro and batteries, virtual power plants enable a reliable power supply. It also allows utilities to generate electricity using renewable energy sources, store it in battery banks and then supply it to customers.

What is Teiszmann Buffer Battery System (BBS)?

Energy Storage System (EES) is being used to store superfluous energy produced from alternative energy sources that can be used for to support the grid and help to avoid black outs , in the case of excess energy needed or by problems with the power generating plant.

Permanent Frequency Regulation

The necessity to meet the connection requirements forces the power generation plant to participate in the grid frequency and voltage regulation. Frequency regulation must be accomplished using storage systems, since the power source is not available at all time. For frequency regulation applications, the BBS is charged or discharged in response to an increase or decrease, respectively, in grid frequency caused by a sudden misalignment of energy supply and demand.

Effective spinning reserve

The BBS is maintained at a level of charge ready to respond to a generation or transmission outage. The system can respond within milliseconds to supply power to maintain network continuity while the backup generator is started and brought online.

Load levelling

This usually involves storing power during periods of light loading on the system and delivering it during periods of high demand. To describe in simple words, Teiszmann BBS can be used to store over capacity produced from alternative energy sources and sell them to a high price at peak times.

Peak Shaving

Battery storage systems primarily serve to cover peak load and in networks with insufficient control power and the grid stabilization. With BBS integration, the fluctuation in the grid can be reduced and peaks can be absorbed.

Power Quality

A BBS may help to protect downstream loads against short-duration events that affect the quality of the power delivered. The power quality issues can lead to brownouts and possibly a complete power interruption. BBSs can provide instantaneous voltage support by injecting or absorbing both active and reactive power.

In addition to voltage support, the BBS may serve as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can bridge unplanned disruptions in service thus further enhancing the quality of power supplied to the energy consumers.
